NextGeo has recently had the pleasure of carrying out operations and reporting for the Elba-Piombino interconnector project to support Prysmian Powerlink in the energy transition. The linkaims to improve the existing electrical connection between the intensively touristic island of Elba and the mainland.

With a great performance from our offshore vessel NG Worker equipped with 2 x WROV 5000m rated, a geophysical (MBES/SSS/SBP), geotechnical (CPT, Vibrocore & Jet probes) and UXO campaign (TSS440/Innovatum) has been safely and timely completed along the full cable route between Elba and Piombino.

NextGeo worked side-by-side with port and local authorities to ensure no interference with local routine activities or the public.

Project Manager Giorgio Ruta commented: “It has been great to be part of this project that will allow the Italian infrastructure to be improved and ready to accommodate the on-going developments in the windfarm markets in the Mediterranean Sea.”
