During the HYDRO 2023 Conference held last week in Genoa, our CEO Giovanni Ranieri
delivered a keynote speech titled “Ocean Exploration: a new challenge for the Energy Transition.”
With his expertise in the field, he highlighted the importance of exploring the ocean as a means to
accelerate the shift towards sustainable energy and emphasized the necessity for the offshore
industry and the scientific community to join forces to reach that goal.Ranieri gave an overview of NextGeo recent research and development advancements in various
technological fields, including subsea robotics, with the realization of a ground-breaking high-speed
deep-water ROV equipped with high-resolution imaging systems and advanced sensors. This opens
up new possibilities for exploring the depths of the oceans, contributing to scientific progress and the
conservation of marine ecosystems.
Collaborating with research institutions in ocean exploration leads to the collection of vital data on
climate, biodiversity, geology, and chemistry of the oceans. These data are essential to understanding
environmental change impact and developing conservation strategies.
He concluded pointing out that private companies are crucial in ocean exploration, contributing with
financial resources, technology advancements, skilled professionals, and partnerships with the
scientific community. Their involvement unlocks possibilities for expanding our knowledge of the
oceans, tackling environmental issues, and promoting marine ecosystem sustainability.
